Fantasy Books
This section of the website takes a bit of a departure from the real history and moves into the realm of medieval fantasy. It is a vibrant area of literature that has been with us for a long time. And there are many different variations of fantasy books. Here are some of these major areas.
Historical Fiction

And one currently very hot genre is Historical Fiction. This is the genre where fiction books are written loosely based on real events and people from the past. A couple of good examples of this are Gates of Fire(The Battle of Thermopylae) and Cold Mountain (The Civil War) Check out the Historical Fiction section of books at Amazon.com Historical Fiction
Fairy Tales

Fairy Tales? This is of course another vibrant area of literature that has thrived since the beginning of story-telling. Amazon.com has a wonderful selection of books both of Fairy Tales and analysis and understanding of them and how they relate to us as humans. Fairy Tales
A couple of good examples of this from both ends of the Fairy Tale spectrum are Beowulf and The Hero with a Thousand faces.
Fantasy

This is the main area of reading when it comes to Medieval things. Who can resist a good tale set in a far off fantasy world. The lord of the Rings is a good example of this and currently the #1 book on this fantasy list is the new Tolkien work "Children of Hurin" Fantasy Books at Amazon
Arthurian Fantasy

This is my favorite sub genre of fantasy and it is a very vibrant area with lots of interesting books loosely based on the legend of King Arthur. One of the most famous books in this realm is "The Mists of Avalon" written by Marion Zimmer Bradley and it is a re-telling of the Arthurian legend from a womans point of view. Epic Fantasy
This is a sub-genre of fantasy that is a bit blurry and hard to define. Usually the biggest requisite is that the story be epic in scope! I love this genre because I dream really big. Epic Fantasy Books
